What we collect

When you place an order, we collect your name, email address, shipping address, billing address, phone number, and the details of what you bought.

When you pay, your card details are entered directly into our payment processors, Stripe and PayPal. Outer Envy never sees or stores your full card number. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded, the amount, and the last four digits of the card.

When you create an account, we store your email address and your order history so you can look up past purchases. We offer sign-in by emailed link, so you are not required to create a password.

When you browse the site, we and our analytics and advertising partners collect technical information automatically: your IP address, browser and device type, the pages you view, how you arrived at our site, and how long you stay.

When you contact us, we keep what you send us so we can help you.

Cookies and tracking

Our site uses cookies and similar technologies. Some are necessary for the site to work at all, such as remembering what is in your cart and keeping you signed in. Others help us understand how the site is used, measure our advertising, and protect our checkout from abuse.

We currently use:

Google Tag Managermanages the Google tags listed below
Google Analytics 4how the site is used, which pages work
Google Adsmeasures which ads lead to purchases
Meta Pixelmeasures which Facebook and Instagram ads lead to purchases, and builds advertising audiences. Loaded by our store software, not by Google Tag Manager.
Google reCAPTCHAprotects our checkout and forms from automated abuse. Loaded by our PayPal payment integration. Google’s privacy policy and terms apply to it.

Advertising measurement and matching. When you complete a purchase, we send our advertising partners information about that order so they can tell us which advert led to it. This includes the order value and the items bought.

We send this to Meta in two ways: from your browser, and directly from our server. The message from our server carries a cryptographically hashed, non-reversible version of the personal details you entered at checkout, which includes your email address, phone number, name, city, state, postal code, country and a customer identifier. If you are signed in, the message from your browser carries the same hashed details. Meta uses these hashes to match your purchase to an account it already holds. We do not send any of those details to Meta in readable form.

Our server also tells Meta when you view our pages and products, search, add to cart and start checkout, not only when you buy. Each of these server-side messages includes your IP address, your browser information and identifiers from Meta’s own cookies, sent as they are and not hashed. Meta uses them to match the event to the right person and session.

Your choices. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, though parts of the site, including checkout, may stop working properly. You can opt out of Google’s advertising personalisation at adssettings.google.com and Meta’s at facebook.com/adpreferences. Most browsers also honour “Do Not Track” settings differently, and we do not currently respond to Do Not Track signals.

Who we share information with

We do not sell your personal information.

We share what is necessary with the companies that help us run the business:

Stripe, PayPalpayment processing
ShipStationprinting labels and shipping your order
Brevosending order confirmations and shipping notices
Googleanalytics, advertising measurement, product listings
Metaadvertising measurement, Facebook and Instagram shops
Anthropicanswering questions in our chat assistant
Kinsta, Cloudflarehosting and security for the website

Each of these receives only what it needs to do its job. Each has its own privacy policy governing what it does with that information.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, safety, or property.

Your account

When you place an order, we create an account for you automatically using the email address you entered, so you can look up that order later. You are not asked to choose a password. To sign in, we email you a link.

Order email

If you buy from us, we will email you about your order. That is not marketing, it is part of fulfilling your purchase, and it continues for as long as we need to tell you about an order.

We do not currently run a marketing email list. If we start one, we will only email you if you ask us to, and every message will carry a one-click unsubscribe.

Chat assistant

Our site has a chat assistant that answers questions about Outer Envy and our covers. Messages you type into it, and the answers it gives, are sent to Anthropic, which provides the underlying service, and are stored by us so we can see what customers are asking and improve the answers.

Please do not type anything into the chat that you would not want stored, including card numbers or passwords. If you need to discuss something private, email info@outerenvy.com instead.

How long we keep things

We keep order records for as long as we need them for accounting, tax and warranty purposes, which in practice means several years. We keep account information until you ask us to delete it. We keep analytics data for the retention period set by the platform, which is currently up to 14 months for Google Analytics.

Your rights

Whatever state or country you are in, you can ask us to:

  • tell you what personal information we hold about you
  • correct anything that is wrong
  • delete your information
  • stop sending you marketing email

Email info@outerenvy.com and we will respond. We will not treat you differently for asking.

If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act gives you specific rights to know what we collect, to have it deleted, and to opt out of its sale. We do not sell personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of, but your rights to know and to delete apply and the email address above is how to use them.

Security

We use HTTPS across the entire site, so information you send us is encrypted in transit. Payment details go directly to Stripe or PayPal and never touch our servers. No system is perfectly secure, and we will not pretend otherwise, but we do not hold the thing most worth stealing: your card number.

Children

Our products are for boat owners and our site is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and change the date at the top. If the change is significant, we will say so clearly rather than quietly editing the text.
